As the grey whales pass the central coast on their southerly migration, they typically surface for two to three breaths, then dive deep for a few minutes, come back up and repeat.

Here, the top grey whale is in the process of diving deep as the bottom whale comes up to the surface for its final breath for its own deep dive.
